Energy Price Cap: How to Save According to Martin Lewis

After the breaking news yesterday of the huge increase of 6.4% in energy bills, Martin Lewis spoke to Ofgem’s Jonathan Brearly to answer the public’s questions on how the price cap for the next few months effects them and advice on how to save themselves money on their energy bill.

Martin’s main advice was ‘get off the price cap, get a fixed energy bill NOW’ this ensures that your bill will be fixed for a certain period of time instead of fluctuating between prices. If you look after an elderly loved one, make sure to check their energy bills to ensure they won’t struggle with energy costs through this price cap. No one should have to feel scared to use their heating, especially the elderly as it is so important for their health to keep warm in their home.

It has been said that around 2.7 million families, including one million with children, will become eligible for the £150 Warm Home Discount next winter under new plans being put forward by the Government to help tackle current high energy costs.

“The government is determined to do everything we can to protect people from the grip of fossil fuel markets,” said Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, “Expanding the warm home discount can help protect millions of families from rising energy bills, offering support to consumers across the country.”

This is something to look out for in the coming months to make sure to check if any elderly loved ones are eligible for the Warm Home Discount.
